During the winter season, much of a plant's energy is stored in its roots. Steeping some of these roots into a tea can be soothing and therapeutic during a cold spell. Many herb roots act as cleansers for the body and
blood as well as 'tonics' for strengthening your body's systems.
Ginger: warming, stimulates gastric secretions, aiding in digestion; soothing for upset stomachs; ground (powdered) ginger may be added to a warm bath for those winter chills.
Nettle: acts as a diuretic, tonic and is considered an excellent herb for kidney problems, backache or uterine problems; used daily as a tea, it can tone kidneys and provide energy.
Flaxseed: simmered and taken as a tea, it reduce mucous and inflamed conditions of the urinary organs; it is soothing and cleansing for the kidneys.
Add: to any green tea, add a cinnamon stick, a sprig of fresh mint, 3-4 whole cloves, or a tablespoon of fresh squeezed orange or lemon.
