Apples in Season

Delicious Healthy Apples

Fresh, crisp, crunchy, sweet or tart, an apple a day may not keep the doctor away. but you will benefit your health by including apples in your diet regularly. Apples aid elimination of Applesthe gastrointestinal tract; the fiber (pectin) binds and eliminates toxins in the gut and helps lower cholesterol levels.

For a quick, low sugar, low fat, low calorie snack, try steamed apples. Wash an apple, cut in six wedges, remove stem, core and seeds. Place pieces in steamer tray of small sauce-pan and steam until slightly tender, but not mushy. Remove apple pieces from heat, place in bowl and sprinkle with cinnamon. This is a great 'before-bedtime-snack'!
